This is time when each group, the teaching assistant, and the teacher get together to work on their world. It is important that each group have their own space and that they have some room to spread out and brainstorm individually and in groups of varying sizes. The teacher and teaching assistant help ensure everyone's ideas are considered and keep the group focused, while also keeping track of key world-building decisions on the blackboard. Skills strengthened by these group sessions include work ethic, creative problem-solving, individual problem-solving, individual creativity, one-on-one communication with an instructor, and general assimilation and application of material learned during academic time.

During these periods, students will be given instruction that they can directly apply to the building of their worlds. For instance, they will learn about history, religion, and science in ways that are specifically tailored to the needs of building a world. The exact nature of these periods will vary from lecture to laboratory experiment. Skills focused on: retention of knowledge, experiential learning, active listening, and inquiry.

Although these fifty-minute sessions may include experiential learning activities, the typical session will be led by one of our award-winning, bestselling authors and take the form of workshops, lectures, or a combination of both, followed by a question-and-answer session. Sometimes guest writers will Skype with the students to show them an interesting artist space—for example, one year Shared Worlds hosted a representative of WETA Workshops in New Zealand via Skype.

These periods, typically in the evening, feature a range of activities including movie marathons, games, and more, in keeping with spirit of a summer camp experience. This time may also focus on extended activities, including role-playing game sessions, which, while fun, also serve to provide the students with further experience in storytelling.
